Minto Advances
Maybe too much energy used up in the 6 game Seaforth series, but the Wingham Legion PeeWees just didn't have enough left in the tank to get past Minto.
After a 4-4 tie in Harriston Jan. 22, the team needed 5 more points to move on. That just wasn't in the books as Minto defeated Wingham 4-2 on Jan. 26 and again 4-3 in OT in Palmerston on Jan. 27 to take the series 7 points to 1.
All close games, the Wingham boys can hold their heads high as they never quit in any game. Coming back from a 3-1 deficit in the Jan. 27 game to force overtime, they needed a win as the tie would have given Minto the one point they needed. However, with the goalie on the bench for the extra attacker, Minto was able to take the win with an empty net goal.
Wingham will now go into WOAA group playoffs against Zurich, Teeswater and Seaforth. Games have not been scheduled at this time, so keep an eye on the team calendar.
