Atom Reps in a Dog Fight
The Foxton Fuels Atom Rep squad is in a tougher series this time around. Their best of 5 series is tied at a game apiece after weekend action.
At home in Wingham on Saturday, the Atoms started strong, but couldn't find the back of the Seaforth net. The visitors managed to go up 1-0 poking in the rebound of a shot of the post. In the second period Seaforth caught the Atoms flatfooted in their own end and scored a shorthanded goal, which seemed to deflate the home squad.
Seaforth played a strong defensive game, allowing very few shots on their own net. Final was 3-0 for Seaforth.
Having lost the coin toss, and the first game at home, game 2 was critical for Wingham and they rose to the occasion. First period goals by Hayden Robinson and Josh Pham carried Wingham to a 4-1 victory and a tie in the series. Seaforth scored in the second period to make it a very tight game at 2-1, and Wingham had to fight off several shorthanded situations to hold the lead until late in the game when Ben MacLean potted an insurance goal. Josh Pham closed out the scoring with his second of the game into an empty net.
Having lost the flip, Wingham will travel to Seaforth on Thursday, Jan. 31 for a 6:00 p.m. game, returning to Wingham on Saturday, Feb. 2 in the 4:30 timeslot.
