The Wingham Legion Peewee hockey team are looking forward to an exciting season.
Team members include, on defense, Bradley Brough, Thomas Gangl, Maitland Higgins and Tyson Michie, along with affiliate McKenna Bross. On offence, team members include Connor Dickson, Josh Hughes, Ben McLean, Josh Pham, Hayden Robinson and Sam Young. Guarding the net this season is Garrett Golley.
On October 9th, the Peewees opened their regular seasons with a convincing 6-2 victory over Mount Forest, leading
5-0 after two periods. Goal scorers were Sam Young with two, Thomas Gangl, Hayden Robinson, Connor Dickson and Ben McLean. Assists went to McLean with two, Gangl, Higgins, Josh Hughes, Josh Pham, Robinson and Young. Solid goaltending was provided by Garrett Golley.
October 16th saw the Peewees host Drayton at the NHWCC. After a slow start and some outstanding goaltending by Garrett Golley, the Peewees were fortunate to be trailing only 1-0 after two periods. The team finally got untracked mid-way through the third period with improved skating and team play scoring two unanswered goals to rally the team to a 2-1 victory. Robinson tallied both goals with the game winning goal being off a backhand with the team shorthanded. Robinson’s first goal was assisted by Hughes and Pham. The team is looking forward to their first tournament in Lucan starting October 24th.
