WMHA Hosts 2 Local League Tournaments
Wingham Minor Hockey hosted a Novice and Atom Local League tournament on Dec. 27 & 28. These were run as new fundraisers for WMHA and will hopefully become annual events.
There were 6 teams registered for each tournament, with each team playing 3 games. This resulted in "A", "B" & "C" Champions by the end of each day. As well as the 3 games, players received pizza and milk at lunchtime and each player received a keepsake medallion or small trophy, depending on how their team fared.
Hats off to Mike Logan, WMHA Executive member, who organized both of these tournaments and was onsite full time both days.
These tournaments not only helped to raise some funds for WMHA, but allowed some parents to get their volunteer hours done by serving lunch or doing timekeeping. Also, the referees were local, using younger ones where possible to get them more experience, lunch and trophies were purchased locally and the 2 days of ice rental benefited the Complex.
WMHA plans to run these tournaments next year as well, possibly expanding to 8 teams per group and may add a PeeWee LL day if there's enough interest.
