The team had a challenging start to regular season play coming away with two wins and one tie.  They have met tough competition on the ice. The boys have worked hard in practice and games to refine their plays and build their skills as a team. Their perseverance yielded them results this past weekend at the Woolwich Wildcats Tournament in Elmira.

On Friday, the team met the North London Nationals. Belmore started the scoring in the first period with a goal for Wingham assisted by Garrhett Green. Effective positioning and grit earned the team a second, unassisted goal by Pham in the third period. Wingham took the 2-0 win.

Saturday’s first game had Wingham facing off against Halton-Hills Thunder. Spencer Green, assisted by Reidy and Pham, primed the team with an early goal from the point just 25 seconds into the game. Strong team play resulted in MacDonald netting two more goals in the second period – both assisted by Gangl. Garrhett Green earned one more point for the team in the third, assisted by MacDonald. Strong defensive play by Mulvey, Reidy, Gangl and Spencer Green helped to keep the goals against to just one. Wingham met the Merriton Bulldogs in the afternoon. Despite 18 penalty minutes Wingham took the win with two goals: MacDonald and Anderson-Johnston each netting one. Deans was strong between the pipes, earning his second shut-out of the tournament. This win earned the team a trip to the semi-finals on Sunday.

The boys faced a strong team from Orangeville on Sunday morning. Heading into the third, Wingham was down 1-0. Orangeville scored two more in the third. With less than two minutes of play remaining, Pham, assisted by MacDonald put Wingham on the score board. Knowing a win may be in reach, Bloemberg pulled the goalie. With six players and 36 seconds left, Robinson, assisted by Spencer Green, scored again. Wingham won the face-off, but could not beat the clock. The boys lost the semis 3-2. Parents and fans congratulate the team on their grit and great play this weekend. Well done boys!!
